What started from a passion for the profession by the duo Jesse Claes and Frederik Knapen quickly grew into a successful multimedia production company.

For over 15 years now, Medialife is a well-established name in Hasselt, with a recent second location in Antwerp. The founding friends

The story of two childhood friends.

Frederik and Jesse, who grew up together in Hasselt, pursued different paths in higher education after completing high school. Frederik embarked on film studies at RITCS in Brussels, while Jesse pursued IT.

The beginning

Their journey began with a request from their former high school to capture the annual Chrysostomos celebrations of the graduating students on film. One of these graduates was the son of a co-founder of the law firm Monard-D’Hulst (now Monard Law). Subsequently, Monard-D’Hulst requested them to create something audiovisual for their 15th anniversary. This led to more opportunities, connecting Frederik and Jesse with various event agencies and a series of subsequent assignments.

From the bedroom

Over the following years, they worked as freelancers on a wide array of projects, ranging from weddings and events to television camera work. Video editing was initially done from an improvised editing studio in Frederik’s parents’ bedroom, soon followed by a second editing studio at Jesse’s parental home.

Their network continued to expand, and the nature of their assignments shifted from weddings to the corporate and event sectors.

The first construction & employee

Until then, they had only collaborated with other freelancers, but in 2011, they decided to hire a permanent video editor.

Simultaneously, construction began on their first office, the current headquarters on Walter Thijsstraat in Hasselt, where Jesse and Frederik lived next door to each other. After moving into the office, they hired a second, third, and fourth permanent employee. Their services evolved from video productions to creating audiovisual content in various forms, including animation, photography, and digital solutions.

Fast forward

Soon, the office became too small, prompting a move to a new building on Vissersstraat in 2015.

Today, Medialife is a well-established name in Limburg and beyond. The need to open a second branch in the historic center of Antwerp was met in 2021.

The near future holds much promise for innovation in media and events.

He is constantly juggling concepts and ideas, going far beyond just ‘offering a video’ to the client. The primary focus is on what the client aims to achieve. That is the ultimate starting point. A wide range of solutions is carefully considered. Can this be achieved through video? Or animation? Perhaps photography? Or maybe through 360, 3D, or interactive means? A tailor-made content plan kicks off activity and passion within the various teams.

And as if that's not impressive enough, Jesse adds an innovative twist to it.

Because creating content is one thing, but reaching the audience with it requires a whole different set of solutions. And that always involves immersion. Medialife is riding the wave of the revolution in virtual worlds and the metaverse. Passionately, interactive solutions are created. Virtual platforms where clients can be amazed. And how about a poster with a sleek look and feel in animation, brought to life through a QR code? Or a multitude of creations that ensure the viewer not only enjoys the content but also valuable data is collected simultaneously?
